The business
MyFaithNews is a Christian news and events source for community updates. It publishes US and world news, religion, health, and tech stories, next to sermons, inspiration pieces, podcasts and book reviews. It also runs a community events calendar and a newsletter.
The challenge
A news site lives on volume. New stories go up all the time, and after a few hundred of them an archive can turn into a maze. Readers need today's news fast, and they still need a way to dig into one topic. A community site also needs ways for readers to take part, not just read.
What we built
We built it on WordPress, with the categories planned before the design. News splits into US News, World News, Religion, Health, Tech and Innovation, Podcasts and Book Reviews. Sermons, Inspiration and Events sit beside it at the top level.
The home page leads with what is trending, then sorts everything else into clear sections - highlights, religious news, world news, most popular, and recent articles - so a reader can scan the whole site from one page.
What the site includes
- An events calendar that readers can add their own events to, through a submission form
- A newsletter sign-up, so readers can follow along by email
- Reader accounts, with registration and password reset
- A donation page, and room for advertising built into the layout
- A section for churches and businesses that want to get their message out
Where it stands
The site carries a steady stream of articles across many categories and still reads as one organized publication. That is where our news and media builds start: categories first, design second.
